THE 69 EYES: More 'Borderline' Video Details Revealed
November 12, 2012Finnish gothic metallers THE 69 EYES recently filmed a video for the song "Borderline" in New Orleans, Louisiana with Patric Ullaeus of Revolver Film Company, who has previously worked with DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL, IN FLAMES, SONIC SYNDICATE and KAMELOT, among others.
Commented THE 69 EYES singer Jyrki69: "My favorite music videos are basically all Elvis movies. What else you need: good music, beautiful girls and exciting location. When it comes to darkness, I think Danzig has got it in the way I love it — always seductive vixens involved.
"To make a video for 'Borderline', we thought to keep those mysterious 'black widows' from our previous 'Red' video there to continue the story. And naturally to have all that fantasy elements of New Orleans and Louisiana there as well. Elvis '56 photos, his movie 'King Creole', 'Midnight Cowboy', 'Easy Rider', 'True Blood' — those were basically the links and ideas I gave to director Patric Ullaeus.
"Needless to tell that he truly got all this and make this video just a modern-day cult movie masterpiece. It looks like my comics (if you ever seen them) and all above! Oh, did I ever mention that Russ Meyer's 'Beyond The Valley Of the Dolls' is also my all-time favorites… Miss Athena and Timo-Timo.
"Lords Chaz and Eric with legendary DJ Swamp, Southern belles Missus Praline, Athena, Heather and Perle, Mr. Mike Gunn and so on — there's all these true cult stars who make this one so unique and special. With the Helsinki Vampires, of course.
"The video will be premiered on this week. If you're impatient, I would recommend meanwhile to see Walt Disney's 'The Princess And The Frog' — another source of inspiration! 'Doncha push your love over the line…'"
The "Borderline" video starts with a scene in which the local vampire tour legend Lord Chaz draws five Xs on the crypt door of the voodoo queen Marie Laveau's resting place in Saint Louis Cemetery #1. "Easy Rider"'s famous psychedelic scene was also filmed there.
"Borderline" comes off THE 69 EYES' latest album, "X", which sold around 1,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The effort landed at position No. 17 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
As previously reported, "X" entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 47 and the Finnish chart at No. 4. The CD, which was released in Europe on September 28 via Nuclear Blast Records, was mixed by Stefan Boman (THE HELLACOPTERS, BULLET).
